Welcome to Emmanuel United Church of Christ

Good morning! What a beautiful day. Yesterday was a little chilly when we had our first worship service of the season in the pavilion but I hope the fire of the Lord kept you warm – along with a few blankets people pulled from your cars. I thought it went well. I like having the seats filled and everyone sitting close together. Even the singing sounds fuller. We will worship outside when the weather is nice.

June was such a busy month with the yard sale, the concert by Men in Harmony, and the 300 Club that I just don’t know how it was all accomplished. Due to the hard work of many, we pulled together like a well-oiled machine and got everything done with wonderful results. I have met several people that attended the events and all of them have had good things to say and that they will be back.. Thanks for all the hard work.

Maybe we can get a good breath during July and August before we start back on our regular schedule in September. (Just like football – choir practice will begin in August.) However a few of us are heading off to Myrtle Beach the end of July for a mission trip. We are excited that we can go help out some less fortunate folks by building ramps, painting, and other odd jobs. There will be a little time left for some fun too. Since Richmond, VA is halfway to Myrtle Beach we are stopping there to spend the night with Charlie and Lisa (my son and daughter-in-law) on the way down and on the way back. It will be nice to be able to drive 6 hours a day and stop (without having to pay for a motel) to break up the trip. They’ve even promised to feed us!

There are so many terrible things going on around our nation with wild fires, floods, tornadoes, and hurricane season about to begin. We have been truly fortunate this year with our weather. Continue to pray for those who have lost so much – even family and friends. But also continue to praise God for his bountiful goodness. As the psalmist wrote in Psalm 105, “Thank the Lord for all the glorious things he does; proclaim them to the nations. Sing his praises and tell everyone about his miracles. Glory in the Lord; O worshipers of God, rejoice. Search for him and for his strength, and keep on searching!”(paraphrase from Living Letters)

May God bless you all!

This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him. — 1 John 5:14-15 (NASV)
